Regulation

All teams will face off in a first and second leg, totaling 38 rounds and 380 matches. There will be 20 clubs competing in the elite of French football, and the team with the highest number of points will be declared champion of the season.

The places for the European competitions are distributed as follows: the top 3 places win the right to participate in the Champions League, while the 4th place goes to the Europa League. The relegation also has important details: the last two placed fall straight, while the third from the bottom (18th), will play a playoff against a team from the 2nd division, earning a new chance to remain in the elite.

If two or more teams end up tied for points at the end of the competition, the tie-breaking criteria will be goal difference and goals scored.

Dates

The French Championship has already started, and the first round took place last weekend. This season's Ligue 1 runs from the 6th of August 2021 until the 22nd of May 2022. Because of the Euro Cup, Copa América and the Olympics, some players are off or recovering physically. This is the case for Neymar Jr.

Favorites to do well in the competition

Talking about PSG is raining in the wet, isn't it? But it's impossible not to highlight the team after this season's transfer window. The Parisian team brought one of the best goalkeepers in the world (Donnarumma), one of the best and most winning defenders on the planet (Sérgio Ramos), as well as Messi, considered by many to be the best football player today. The tendency is for the team to play by music in Ligue 1, such is their superiority over their opponents. We can't forget that the team already has Kylian Mbappé, Neymar, Di Maria, Marquinhos among other stars.

But whoever thinks that this team is the current French champion is wrong. Last season Lille took the trophy home. The team will hardly be able to repeat the feat, as in addition to the millionaire competitor, some of its main parts of the title have already left, including its coach. However, he must fight for the top positions in search of a place in the Champions. Lyon is another team that tends to fight at the top of the table, but arrives without their main reference from last season. Striker Memphis Depay moved to Barcelona, leaving the team weakened in the offensive sector. Olympique de Marseille has names known to Brazilian fans, such as coach Sampaoli and midfielder Gérson, formerly Flamengo. This is one of the main teams in France, and the expectation is to fight for European spots. Lastly, Monaco have been on a rising note since the second round of last season, and have kept their coach and squad base. With that, they should arrive in harmony and look good throughout the year.
