Regulation

All teams will face off in a first and second leg, totaling 38 rounds and 380 matches. There will be 20 clubs competing in the elite of French football, and the team with the highest number of points will be declared champion of the season.

The places for the European competitions are distributed as follows: the top 3 places win the right to participate in the Champions League, while the 4th place goes to the Europa League. The relegation also has important details: the last two placed fall straight, while the third from the bottom (18th), will play a playoff against a team from the 2nd division, earning a new chance to remain in the elite.

If two or more teams end up tied for points at the end of the competition, the tie-breaking criteria will be goal difference and goals scored.

Dates

The French Championship has already started, and the first round took place last weekend. This season's Ligue 1 runs from the 6th of August 2021 until the 22nd of May 2022. Because of the Euro Cup, Copa América and the Olympics, some players are off or recovering physically. This is the case for Neymar Jr.

Favorites to do well in the competition
