The Chilean government's basis for debate was the analysis of the absurd growth of the gaming industry around the world. Rodrigo Galilea, Senator of Chile, reported to a news portal that around 600 game operators are operating within Chilean territory without the necessary regulation. Because of this, Galilea commented that the Chilean government urgently needs to regulate online casinos in order to have adequate regulation of the market.
According to the report, the online casinos regulation project should have been sent to the Congress of Chile at the beginning of the year, but ended up being postponed due to some circumstances. But now the Chilean Treasury indicates that the bill should reach Congress as soon as possible.
Having said that, there is great expectation for the legalization of online casinos, unlike in Brazil, there are a number of parliamentarians who are in favor of the cause. Because of this, Congress should pass the agenda: "There are programs and advertisements of these casinos in the media being prohibited, while traditional casinos were affected by the coronavirus pandemic. On the other hand, Senator Luz Ebensperger was favorable to the agenda, but reported the difficulty that the country would have in regulating the modality of online games, since the operators are from outside Chile. But the regulations, according to Ebensperger, "will help ensure that gambling doesn't reach minors."
It is worth mentioning here that at the beginning of this month of October, reports from the Chilean government indicated that the country had earned US$50 million in revenue from casinos in August alone. The informative report published by the Superintendency of Casinos de Juego (SCJ), pointed out that 40.808 billion pesos had been obtained in the month of August.
In the information revealed, casino operators contributed to the country with an amount of 13,247 billion pesos with taxes, pointing to an excess of "what was collected in August 2019, before the pandemic". Therefore, the SCJ reported: "In the first month of continuous operation that 25 of the country's 26 casinos have had since the start of the pandemic, industry revenue has recovered by more than 90%. Eight casinos showed an even higher level of activity than recorded. in the pre-pandemic, in August 2019".
One of the places that contributed the most to this was the municipality of Viña Del Mar, which contributed 1.4 billion pesos in taxes. To comment on what happened, the SJC entity emphasized: "the casino located in the municipality of Viña del Mar, since 31 July has been contributing in the month of August with approximately 1.4 billion pesos in total taxes".
